When it comes to proper diet and exercise I have been totally confused. It seems like every other minute a new fad or exercise routine has been created. It’s no wonder some people give up before even trying due to information overload.
I’ve used different diet and exercise routines and after years of experimenting, here is what I’ve learned: First, not all diets are created equal. One that worked for you in your 20′s will likely no longer work for you in your 30′s. Over time our bodies change and what works for us also changes.
Second, if you’re looking to lose weight, you need to exercise and alter your food intake. Exercise needs to be a combination of weight training, cardio and stretching several times a week. I learned this diet and exercise lesson the hard way.
Prior to my last photo shoot, I exercised like mad to get ready. When I saw the proof photos I was not happy with how I looked. I expected to be slimmer and look different in the photos. After that, I reevaluated what I was doing and realized that I needed to also make some diet changes. What worked for me was dramatically reducing my carbohydrate and sugar intake in addition to an exercise routine. I speak from personal experience when I say it won’t be easy at first. However, once you get into an exercise and diet routine and start seeing results, all the hard work you have put in will be worth it.
Remember to give yourself one or two cheat days a week. When you slip up be KIND to yourself! We are only human. Beating yourself up causes more harm than good and can often result in backsliding or losing all the progress you’ve made.
Another important thing to remember is you are beautiful inside and out and should only be losing weight for yourself, no one else! Anyone who tells you otherwise is not your friend and does not have your best interest at heart. People who truly care about you will love you no matter what.
